In materials science and industrial quality control, the Upright Metallographic Microscope is essential for examining the microstructure of metals, semiconductors, and other materials. The iMetal-630B/BD from Mikrosize is a professional-grade upright metallographic microscope designed for high-precision metallographic analysis. It supports bright field, bright-dark field, polarizing observation, and differential interference contrast (DIC), making it a versatile tool for research and industrial testing.
Advanced Optical System

The iMetal-630B/BD adopts an infinite optical system, matched with plan semi-apochromatic objectives and large-field high-eyepoint eyepieces. This combination restores true details of metallographic structures and meets high-precision testing requirements. The 10X wide-field eyepieces (field number Φ23mm) provide comfortable viewing with adjustable diopter. A five-hole encoded nosepiece allows precise positioning and smooth operation, integrating hardware settings with image analysis software.
Intelligent Light Intensity Management

A key feature is the intelligent light intensity management system. When switching objective magnifications, the optimal light intensity is automatically matched, eliminating repeated manual adjustment and reducing human errors. The 10W 4500K wide-spectrum LED with CRI≥95 offers stepless brightness adjustment and a variable aperture. It generates almost no heat and provides illumination equivalent to a 100W halogen lamp, with constant colour rendering at different intensity levels.
Flexible Observation Modes

The iMetal-630B is configured for bright field observation, while the iMetal-630BD adds bright-dark field capability. Optional polarizing observation and differential interference contrast (DIC) are available. The bright-dark field comparison highlights defects, particles, and transparent edges with stronger contrast. DIC observation delivers a 3D embossed effect with clear edges and no halation, enabling sample observation without staining.
Precision Mechanical Design

The microscope features a right-hand detachable stage with a travel of 75×50mm, combined with a coarse and fine coaxial focusing system (1μm fine adjustment scale value). The stage size is 135×125mm, with a glass stage of 101×101mm. The coarse and fine coaxial adjustment knob ensures precise positioning and stable precision during long-term use. A standard C-mount interface allows flexible expansion of cameras and software.
Software and Data Management

The included metallographic image analysis software supports hardware calibration and metallographic grade evaluation, covering international testing modules for grain size, inclusions, and more. It offers real-time image stitching, depth of field fusion, geometric measurement, and multi-format report export. The software automatically recognises the active objective lens and switches the scale bar accordingly. It is compatible with Windows 7, 10, and 11.
Applications

The iMetal-630B/BD is widely used for grading grain size and inclusions of steel, non-ferrous metals, and other materials. It evaluates heat treatment processes and material properties, detects defects such as cracks, blowholes, and porosity in castings and weldments, and traces failure causes. It clearly presents weld fusion zones and heat-affected zones, observes powder metallurgy parts and coating interfaces, and is suitable for teaching experiments in materials science.
