Key Features and Functions

The iThick-7000 is equipped with automatic ranging, automatic freeze, automatic E-blanking, automatic gain, and other functions that enhance convenience and accuracy. Its thickness alarm function changes the color of thickness values and sounds a buzzer when measurements exceed upper or lower limits. The probe coupling prompt displays thickness values in white font and sounds a buzzer when coupling is good. With a 1MHz-20MHz bandwidth and 72dB gain with step adjustment, the gauge offers an effective range of 0.15-3200mm (longitudinal wave in carbon steel). It can save 520 files, each recording 252 sets of thickness values, totaling 130,000 sets, using a grid file format for easy access. The bundled Data View upper computer software enables data statistics, analysis, archiving, and report printing.
Measurement Principle and Operation

The gauge measures thickness via ultrasonic pulse reflection. The probe emits pulses that reflect from the material interface; by timing propagation, thickness is determined. To operate: select a suitable probe based on material and thickness, apply coupling agent for good contact, place the probe vertically on the surface, and keep it stable during measurement. The iThick-7000 supports multiple measurement modes including P-E (pulse-echo), E-E (echo-echo), I-E (interface-echo), and ME-E (multiple echo), adapting to various testing scenarios.
Understanding Abnormal Readings

Readings may deviate from expected values due to several reasons. Sound speed selection error is common: calibrating with one material (usually steel) then measuring another causes errors, as different materials have varying ultrasonic speeds. The iThick-7000 offers automatic zero point calibration and automatic sound velocity calibration to mitigate this. Temperature influence also matters: sound velocity in solids drops with rising temperature—by about 1% per 100°C increase for hot materials. Users should follow guidance for high-temperature applications. Stacked/composite materials with uncoupled laminates cannot be measured because ultrasound cannot penetrate gaps; readings only reflect the layer in contact with the probe. Coupling agent issues—insufficient or uneven application—block ultrasound. Choose the right coupling agent and apply correctly.
Applications
The iThick-7000 is used to measure the thickness of metal products such as steel plates and aluminum plates, ensuring precise thickness of automobile body panels and aircraft frames. It can measure concrete columns and walls to assess strength, check floor concrete uniformity, and inspect metal corrosion non-destructively. It also measures metal pipes, containers, and plates for quality control, and detects material uniformity and defects in welding and casting.
