The ITM-SA300/SA500 Semi-automatic Charpy Impact Testing Machine from Mikrosize is designed to evaluate the impact toughness of metallic materials under dynamic loading. Unlike fully computer-controlled systems, this machine combines semi-automatic operation with robust mechanical design, making it a practical choice for foundries, mechanical manufacturing, construction, aerospace, and military component testing.
Design and Safety Features
The main machine adopts a single supporting column structure and a cantilever-type pendulum hanging method. The impact knife is installed and fixed with screws, allowing easy replacement. Samples are supported in a simply supported beam manner.
Safety is carefully considered. A safety pin prevents the pendulum from falling accidentally, and a wire protective net contains splashes during the experiment. A manual control box lets operators control the equipment from a relatively long distance. The pendulum adopts a detachable design, so users can replace pendulums with different impact energies to expand the application range. The C-type pendulum design reduces frictional energy loss caused by air resistance. A sample centering device ensures accurate placement and eliminates errors caused by sample deviation.
Semi-automatic Operation
The machine is controlled semi-automatically. Except for manually placing the sample, pendulum lifting, pendulum hanging, impacting, and pendulum releasing are all electrically controlled. After the sample breaks, the remaining energy is used to automatically lift the pendulum, preparing for the next experiment—ideal for continuous impact testing. The pendulum is released only when the impact button on the manual control box is pressed, and a mechanical interlock device provides additional safety.
Experimental data is read using a dial pointer with an accuracy of 0.5 J, giving direct and reliable readings without complex software setup.
Performance and Standards
The ITM-SA300 offers maximum impact energies of 150 J and 300 J, while the ITM-SA500 provides 250 J and 500 J. Both models feature a pendulum pre-lifting angle of 150°. The distance from pendulum axis to striking center is 750 mm for the SA300 and 800 mm for the SA500, with impact speeds of 5.2 m/s and 5.4 m/s respectively. The anvil span is 40 mm, and standard sample sizes include 10×10×55 mm, 10×7.5×55 mm, 10×5×55 mm, and 10×2.5×55 mm. The equipment meets ISO 14556, ASTM E23, and ISO 148 standards.
Optional Accessories

A low-temperature tank is available for low-temperature impact experiments. Additional optional items include 450 J and 750 J pendulums, impact knives of different sizes (2 mm, 8 mm), a notch projector, a hydraulic broaching machine for impact sample notches, and standard impact samples.
Conclusion
The ITM-SA300/SA500 from Mikrosize delivers dependable impact resistance testing with semi-automatic control, strong safety features, and flexible pendulum options. It supports impact load testing of gears, shafts, structural materials, and critical aerospace and military components, providing accurate and repeatable results for material evaluation.
